Subject: Spawning Bed Clean Up November 17-18

All: PCT is planning to remove weeds and silt from 4 spawning beds areas in the upper half of the creek on the weekend of the 17-18. We are requesting volunteers to spend 2-4 hours on Saturday and/or Sunday with a rake and a 5 gallon bucket to yank out the weeds and loosen the silt from the gravel.

This is the link to the sign up sheet:

Regular garden rakes work well on the weed removal, but the silt is best loosened with the shorter handled 4 tined model with the teeth that are about 2" apart. PCT will provide a few of both types, but there will not be enough for everyone. Start time will be 10AM with finish between 12 and 2 PM, rain or shine. Chest waders recommended.

I think that Putah Creek will become a very exciting wild trout fishery as time goes by.

They have finally gotten catch-n-release regulations there plus no planting of hatchery trout now too.

With a little help this stream will become a wonderful place to fly fish for wild Rainbow and wild Brown trout that is centrally located for Bay Area and Valley fly fishers as well.

This will also make Lake Solano a great still water fishery too.

Back in the 1960s and '70s these were both very good fisheries that kind of went down hill.....
