Got a late start as I hadn't planned to fish it today but I got a call from JonnyB (Troutstaker55B) and he wanted to know if I wanted to go out. He's been so busy lately with the guiding that we haven't had much time to fish together and he's someone you always have a good time with whether the fish are on are not.

We fished the shore at the north end of the lake and had good fishing. There's nothing like sight fishing it really gets your blood going. There weren't many bugs out something I've noticed for the last week or so. Water temps are good down in the fifties. We had no wind to speak of, flat water, which I love. Fish were coming up but you had to pick your spots. The fish I took, all healthy, hit hard on a wiggle tail fished from a floating line.

There were some small black what I thought were beetles about a size 18 showing. Jon caught one and was sure it was a back swimmer. I've seen them this time of the year before and have even taken fish on them.

I brought the camera along and hope I got some great shots but I'm just to beat to download them at the moment...I'll try and get them up later. All in all a great day...this is definitely the best time of the year to wet a line.

Hey Pete, that was so much fun! The highlight of the day for me was seeing a fish in 6 inches of water just cruising ever so slowly and looking for food. I was so close I could actually see his eyeball moving up and down, left and right searching for anything that moved.
Post those pics!

I think your right about the beetles, that could be why those trout are in 6 inches of water...looking for back swimmers. A size 18 would make it hard to hang on to those toads.

Hi Pete
Good to finally meet up with you, if only for a moment, just enough to wave hello. Our group of seven folks had good fishing, both stripping buggers and midging with blood midges and pt's at fairview point and eagle point. Fish are getting to be a nice size---16 to 19 average, and almost all were clean and very healthy. Very strong fighters. Davis is coming back!!

October on Davis lake is usually very good.......thanks for the great reports.

Wading in a lake for nice trout is really wonderful fishing.

It is time to go....and go soon.

It looks like we all had some good fishing and yes the fish are clean, healthy and as strong as ever. I've had my eye out for you...it was nice to finally see you. The season is far from over and as it gets colder & colder we see fewer and fewer people on the lake...I can live with that.;)

I'm glad to hear you and your people had such a good outing.

I found those pictures on a card I thought I'd reformatted without down loading first but it was another card, so here they are...

It was an absolutely beautiful morning out on Davis...we both put ashore ready to fish..

The water was flat and fish were showing...that's Jonny out there...

And here's the sequence of the old pro himself, Jonny, getting into a Lake Davis Rainbow frame by frame...

Great step-by-step "How To..." shots. I can almost make a flip book out of them!

I got out again yesterday...another absolutely beautiful day. The shallow water fishing continues to be good. We're still not seeing the bugs, at least not in the morning hours, but we are seeing heads and that's what makes it all so worthwhile.

Thanks Bill...I'm hoping we'll hear from JonnyB soon. He's up at Eagle and it sounds like they're into fish with some nice weather to boot.
