Dave Neal is excellent...

He may be guiding on the Trinity by the time you're there, but he can refer you to other good guides if necessary.

Dave Neal is a good friend of mine and a really top guide down that way.

Dave is also a member of this BB.

We are lucky in CA to have lots of highly recommended guides.

Thanks, fellows. I had considered Sierra Drifters, but read something below I didn't like. Will check out the others.

If Dave is booked ask him to direct you to "Otis". Guy is a legend in the area and an absolute crack up. Had a great day with him some years ago on the Owens.

You will NOT be disappointed if you spend the day with Dave. Great guide and great guy. Here is a link to his availability calendar, directly from his website:

As mentioned, even if Dave is booked have him refer you to another local guide. Have fun!

Thanks. Dave is booked but he is on it and will find me someone.

Now to figure out where I can do some day trips out of SF while I'm still here.

Lower Yuba? MFFR? Overnight in Truckee?

Coming from a guide, I highly recommend Scott Flint out of the Troutfitter. I first met Scott about 20 years ago when he was running the water taxi at Saddlebag Lake so he could fly fish all the time in the back country during his off hours. Ive spent a few days in his bass boat on Crowley and Bridgeport stickin big ones and Ive also done some fishing with him in the winter on the E Walker. He has his finger on the pulse of the east side and he knows what needs to be done to catch fish. If hes available he would be a good choice. Good luck whichever route you choose.
