Thanks for the 411 Smitty! I haven't caught anything below there this year except for a schillie striper. It was good last Fall.

Was in the water way above Watt Avenue Bridge at 6:30am on the south side (river left).

Fished all the way down to below the bridge where I ran into Terry Thomas, Dave Mathews and Ray Hillard who were testing lines and getting ready for some fall steelhead trips to Morrison's Lodge on Rogue River and with Little Creek Outfitters on the John Day River.

It was fun to cast some different two-handed rods.

**They cast my new 4 weight Redington Prospector Switch rod and determined my new Rage 300 (308g) x 27.5' was too heavy. Will try a Rio Steelhead Scandi 280g x 31' next.

PS: Not a tap or grab.........

If they had double cheese they might be 1/2 lbers. Right
At 0 dark 30 I did see some nice activity with some 1/2 lber + size backs coming out of the water. Nice hatch going on.

Fished Sunrise from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today (Sunday). A few significant tugs in one nonchalant tailout (one felt like it would snap my line), but no hookups. Was swinging a Soft Hackle Hare's Ear and Fox's Poopah trailer in close -- maybe 20' of line on the water. Saw caddis activity the entire time, and was mauled by a cluster of them for the last 45 minutes. Also saw either a nice fresh chromer about 20"-25" or jack salmon swim by me, plus some big swirls, which I assume were from salmon.

Is it me or is it tougher to set the hook with the longer rods (I was using a 10.5' switch rod)? It seems like there's a lot more give when the rod's that long and you get a tug -- a larger circumference, so to speak, compared to a standard rod.

If you're swinging a fly you don't really need to set the hook. Let the fish grab and turn (easier said than done!) and once it's turned and taken a bit of line all you have to do is gently raise the rod tip toward the bank and you're on.
