I saw they were chatting about tide apps for Smart Phones on Dan Blanton's BB.

I guess it depends on what phone system you have? Droid or iPhone?

What do you use?

Bill,
I've had the "fish head" app since it came out. Does both tides and river
conditions. Weather -current and forecasts. I think it runs around $6 now.
I'd give it an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Best to you from warm San Diego,
Larry S

When I got my iPhone the fish head app was one of the first apps I bought. Haven't used the tide portion but use the river portion. I like it.

I use an app called Tide Graph. I like it because it is graphical, can use location based services to find the closest reference point to you and it even gives you the speed of the tide.

The tide and river functions are very useful. I agree with the 8 out of 10 rating.

I use Tide Graph by Brainware and it helped me catch 30 or so LMB's and stripers on Sunday from my pontoon. With Tide Graph I can open the map and look for whatever location I want. It comes in real handy when heading to the coast. You can check the tide for the future as well.

I don't yet have a smartphone. I know. I know. I'm lost in a time warp. However I am considering upgrading at some point.

Tom and Larry I'm curious, what makes the FH app "an 8 out of 10?"

Cheers, Ken

Ken,
There are many good and some great apps for tides and rivers. I would call an 8 and
above a great score. I knock a point off for costing money; I haven't checked in awhile,
but, some of the apps used to be free and quite good.
The other deduction comes from a couple of issues. An early update resulted in
the loss of all my river and tide locations. I have tide sites for both east and west
coasts and stream in several states. The last update went smoothly. Also, on rare
occasions, the data can be haywire. Water temps above 1000?
I also have Ayetides and a friend has the Navionics app. Ayetides is decent; haven't used it
enough to compare. f you spend a lot of time boating, you should consider the
Navionics. I have heard that both salt and fresh water boaters rave about this
program.
The nice thing about apps (whether you pay for them or not) is that the updates are free.
Should you "lose" or delete one by mistake, you just download it again.
Best,
Larry S
