Had a good report on Putah Creek from a "local" who is fishing it more than we are.

Now that they have had the new catch-n-release regs on there for about 4 years there are nice small wild trout in there now. They are 10-12 inches now and getting a little bigger every year.

He says you get the occasional larger 14-16 inchers and he showed me a photo of a nice 22 inch monster Rainbow he just landed.

He said the flow is 400 cfs which is a little high but fishable.

I think that Putah Creek has a bright future.....

That is great to hear. Putah used to be my "go to" around 10 years ago when
I first started fly fishing. Good 'ol Chuck Won from this board taught me indicator
nymphing there. Caught some BIG boys back in the day.

Some very fond memories from Putah. Great to hear it's making a comeback.

They had big and small fish in there before the C&R went into effect too.

I had a big one on a few years back, I thought he snapped my leader after a couple of jumps and runs but when I pulled my line in I noticed my #18 hook was straightened out.

These native fish are very healthy and strong. Its good to see the river slowly coming back with healthy fish and lots of bug activity. Just remember to report illegal activity you see and educate the people who don't know any better.
