...In broad daylight.
I heard this barred owl from my house today so I stepped out and called him on my ipod. He came right to me

He gave me a couple fly-by's

Unfortunately the crows found him and made his life miserable, and he flew off over the tree tops.

Jay,
Isn't that the call of the barred owl? Great shots. Wish they would learn to team up and
give some payback to the crows and ravens.
Best,

Great shots as usual. In my neck of the woods they are concerned these guys are going to threaten the livelyhood of the Spotted owl. I bet they came from Oregon. :)

as usual! I need everybody to start working longer hours and pay more into FICA, so maybe I can get a raise on my SS check to enable me to buy an iPod!! It seems to be a pretty effective tool to sucker birds into camera range! Dang! I'm still jealous! Owls and "Quakies" too!

always good, jbird!
on a side note, when I was a kid growing up in Ohio, if you wanted to hunt crow, you just put an owl decoy in the tree.
Crows would flock fro miles around to torrment the owl.:D

Hearing the caterwauling (sp?) call of a female barred owl in a pitch black midwest forest is probably the most terrifying sound i have ever heard... Talk about raising the hair on the back of your neck!

Ive been hearing that lately. Theres a few of them around my place and they chatter quite a bit. That gutteral chatter is indeed a spooky sound.
