Ah Di Na, Ash Camp and the Fisherman's Loop on the McCloud are now closed due to the Bagley fire. The order went out this morning from the local Forest Service office. The special uses officer who forwarded the closure memo (dated today) said she received an email yesterday at 3:45 announcing the closure. She expects the closure to continue at least until late September. Probably the easiest way to find out if the McCloud has reopened is to call the Mt. Shasta Forest Service office before venturing to the McCloud or Pit Rivers 530-926-4511. The McCloud office can also be contacted at 530-964-2184.

I will also post updated threads with any breaking news.

It sounds like this fire could have a serious impact on the Lower McCloud. My understanding is that while it is not quite there yet, it is moving down the ridge and has already hit much of Hawkins and Ladybug canyons.

Worse, it appears that the USFS is planning to wait until it hits the river to stop it. This map shows the fire line running from about the Conservancy, along the river to the dam.

Pray for the McCloud, folks. She needs it.

How about the Pit? It seems to be affected as well.

Looking forward to many years of fishing beetles and flying ants. Perfect place to hunt truffles in the spring. Next year's wildflowers should be memorable. The best fishing in Yellowstone history was the decade or so after the big fire. Ugly and changed yes, ruined or lost, no.
