This is my favorite video clip of catching steelhead on a fly rod period.
It is un-cut...raw....real!!!

Watch it all very carefully.......
I wish I Spey cast as good as he does.
Thanks golfish.............
After watching this why would you want to indo for them?
You catch a different type of fish swinging flies............

Thought you would enjoy it...a little embarrassing but it's supposed to be fun and the fish gods were definitely on my side. One thing about looking like a techno-geek with a camera on your head is you can see all the things you do wrong in the heat of the moment. Bonus was later that same day I picked up a wild hen at Touvelle on the way home, what an epic day!
Lots of things to improve but the journey is the fun part!

Golfish, now that's what I'm talking about! Thanks for some good fishporn and a good laugh... That is a epic day!! Congrats! I had the floating rod syndrome happen to me after landing a fish on the Kispiox. Talk about panic!!

Nice footage. I like those GoPros. But they really put a warp on the footage. It made Station look absolutely huge.
When you use your Rage for waking flies, what do you use as a leader?

Funny, just like Speyfool asked the only reason I logged on was to ask what leader were you using?
Thanks
Great video, made my weekend. What fly were you using?

Most people would probably recommend a 14' poly but I was using 10' with 5-6ft of 10lb. I wanted to ensure that the big wind resistant fly was turning over straight which is critical to start popping straight away, worked well for me.
All fish rose on a skaopper, 2/3 fish were hooked on the comeback fly, a big blocky muddler I tied, same popping action.
Thanks. I have to tie some Ska-oppers

Thanks for the info. I've been debating on whether to get a Rage line. Normally I'm fine with my compact scandi. However, on some of the rivers around here the wind is so strong in the afternoons that the scandi has a hard time with a skater tied on.
Regarding the comeback fly. Did you fish the muddler under the surface? Or was it on the surface too? My best way to catch fish with a skater is to not even catch them with the skater. But just use them as locators, then switch to a wet for the actual hookup. Maybe I'm bailing too soon, but I seem to have better luck that way.
Thanks,
Rick

Comeback fly tied on same rig and fished the same way. Wasn't throwing spray like the popper but it was on the surface or in the film.
I used the same muddler with a 10' Type VI on the Rage later that day on the Rogue and picked up another fish, love muddlers...
