We just spent the last couple of nights hiking in Desolation Wilderness. It looks like the NON-planting of fish is finally taken it's toll on some of the lakes.

Aloha - No fish seen or caught. Confirmed w/other fisherman
Clyde - No fish seen or caught. confirmed w/other fisherman

Without spawning streams these lakes seem to be devoid of all fishlife. We did see a lot of tadpoles. So maybe the frogs are coming back.

I even hiked some distance down the Rubicon River from Clyde and didn't find fish. I'm sure if I'd gone all the way to Camper Flat I would have found some resident bows.

At this point if you're heading into Desolation, look for lakes with viable spawning streams or known populations of brookies. Heather and Susie lakes come to mind.

Has anyone been up to Gilmore or Stoney Ridge to fish for the Mac's lately?
