He developed the Elk Hair Caddis.......

Bob Giannoni and I bought flies from him as little as 10 years ago. They are too nice to fish.....

Great tyer and a great guide. The elk hair caddis, the modern pheasant tail and a host of others are part of his legacy. His chapter in "The Masters on the Nymph" was amazing and it really showed his insight on reading water. I highly recommend any trout fisherperson to give it a read. His chapter in "Wisdom of the guides" is another good one. I really regret not getting to meet him in person. Al Troth, Frank Sawyer, G.E.M. Skues, Gary LaFontaine. I try to let some of their words I've read, live on in my fishing.

Bill and Dan you might enjoy this video clip with Al and his son.

He certainly had an impact in my fly fishing life. He still does. Al's a great example of living the outdoorsmen's life.

I'll be raising another toast to Al and his Elkhair shortly. Got plenty in my box ready for the next trout adventure in a few weeks.
Cheers, Ken

Thanks Ken,

There is a reason why many go to Idaho, Montana, Colorado, etc.

That is a wonderful video clip......
