I took Rafdawg 34 down into a remote Sierra creek in the Plumas National Forest yesterday. He said he wanted to go where the wild things are with plenty of trout, I knew just place and we had quite the adventure on our hands...

Rafdawg has been fly fishing for a long time, it was fun to watch him attack the plunge pools with his little 8 foot 4wt.

Native rainbows came easily to the foam hopper.

Ledges, edges, and dark water; trout habitat. Water temps ran 53-62 degrees.

Rafdawg is an animal. He fished for 7 hours, and not a bite of food - He was very focused at the task at hand!

It's all about the springs during the heat of the summer on these small creeks. Water temps here run 45-51 degrees.

The fish were very fat this year and I'm guessing the low runoff did not scour the creek of all macroinvertebrates offering more food to them. Rafdawg was fish king today, he C&R 47 fish, with 2 at 13"!

It was a real pleasure to guide him - Jon.

Jon - That was a phenomenal day. Those pictures make me twitch and want to get out there again.

That was the exact type of stream I wanted to experience and you delivered. Thanks for showing me around and teaching me some new tips and tricks.
