Strange little weather system has cooled things a bit.
The higher temps have made fishing during the day problematic.
Smaller fish will move during the day but bigger guys tend to be shy.
Fishing is good mostly early and late.
Frothy water is best, riffles, and pocket water hold more oxygen for them.
Short line nymphing is coming into vogue now because of that.
Dry fly in the evenings from around 7:00 until after dark.
Yellow sallies, and some Caddis and largish PMDs 12.
Golden stones about too.
Hoppers in the afternoon.
Some Cray molting due to warmer water.
Saw an Oct. Caddis in his house pupating yesterday.
Seems pretty early to me for that.......
A few less fishers on the water since the 4th.
Still pays to walk.
Nice flows 300-4oo cfs, temp, low-mid sixties in town.
Wet wading after dark is still chilly, but the rest of the time is perfect.
Should be good for a few days, then heat up again.
Fish while the fishing's good.
Some fast grabs, bring your game.

Bigfly, thanks for the heads-up. Spent Tuesday afternoon and evening on the Truckee on the Glenshire stretch. Windy, windy, windy. However, I managed to hook 2 and land 1 on a FBPT. Finally around 7:00 started to see some caddis on the water. Caught 2 on an EH caddis. Very few rises, though.

Wednesday morning I headed to the meadow section of the LT. Caught 2 nymphing--both on a GR hares ear. Around noon I started seeing lots of PMDs (?) landing on the water. However, didn't see a single rise. Windy again.

Nice couple days in spite of the wind.

Cheers,
Harlan

Has been very nice up here.
Not too hot, still in the AM, and a little less windy in the PM..
Water is warmish up above town 66+ in the AM.
Down in the canyon is cooler.
I recommend the morning attack for the most fishy activity.
Pocket water is best.
But you can get a grab on some slow drifts below frothy water as well.
Go as natural with colors as possible with fly choice.
Small is safe......
No bling....
Amber Z-wings sz.16-18 No bead.
Little yellow sallies...
Golden stones...
Hoppers, all sizes. Use a local pattern for best results. Burks...
Drown them.
1st drifts are best.
After that, the grabs drop off a lot...
These guys are careful shoppers by this time of year.
The evening hatch near town is smallish with the end of day temps being high.
Down below it's better. Bring a flash light.......

Over playing a fish in the 68+ deg water, can be fatal to them.
If you do hook up in the evening, make sure to keep them in foamy water till they are ready to go. The fish thank you.....
The raft hatch is bigger on the weekends.
Rover hatch is steady all week.
Drink lots of water...........
Have fun out there...
