:-) :-)

This is the newest addition to my arsenal for taking advantage of my feathered friends...

Being so far from hunting season, I picked this blind up for dirt cheap!

I set out to try and "nail" the Indigo Bunting in my back yard. Well, I nailed him :-)

This is a quote from Audubon...

"Indigo Buntings have no blue pigment. They are actually black. The diffraction of light thruogh the structure of the feathers makes them appear blue."

I have this gorgeous red, flowering bush in my backyard. I thought it might be neat to convince the bird to land in it for a photo. The trouble was, the birds hangout was some 100 yards from the bush. So I slowly walked, playing the bunting song, and I'll be danged if that bird didnt follow me all the way over there! Just like a little blue puppy. I put the ipod in the bush and after a few fly'by's, he landed in it. The light was all but gone at this point so the photo isnt great. I think I may try again tho.

I captured this Red Eyed Vireo commiting suicide.

The song sparrows were busy collecting bugs... bid, nasty bugs

My woods are filled with little Ovenbirds. They have a very loud voice for such a little bird. They are VERY reclusive and like to stay deep in the darkness. I can only convince them to peek out of the forest in the evening so far. I just love these little guys. They walk along branches so smoothly they look as if theyre traveling on a conveyer belt. LOL

I love your work with the birds. It makes me rethink that my primary interest is as a bird watcher carrying a 9 ft stick with string on it.

Next thing you know you'll be eating seeds and bugs with them Jay! Nice going.

No blue? That's very cool about the feathers and light. Thanks.

Cheers, Ken

The contrast in colors in that last pic of the Indigo Bunting and the red plant is so intense, it's amazing.... Great photo's. :D

Jay,
We need Duke Ellington's "Mood Indigo" playing in the background. Great eye candy!
Best,

Thanks folks!

Ken, if eating bugs and seeds improves my results, Im on it! ;-)

No wren yet, but Ive been watching for em. I saw some last summer but didnt photograph them. They are super active and mobile and should be a good challange!

When are you going to get a pick of the great do-do bird?
