I started off the day by walking to the end of my road and into Mcmillan Marsh. I was greeted right away by a small flock of American Redstarts. Until today, Ive only caught a couple fleeting glimpses of these small warblers. Thanks to my ipod app, they came right to me :-)

These are really interesting birds and seem like something youd see in tropics. Almost resemble butterflies in flight.
I photographed them for an hour or so before I headed to Menards to pick up supplies to remodel my bathroom.
At one point, I looked out the back window and butterflies were all over my lilac

And this unidentified oddity...

This evening after dinner, I went out to the SW corner of my property where the forest wall meets a small overgrown field. I started playing different calls and got an instnt response from an excited Common Yellowthroat.

I shot this guy for 1/2 hour when out of the woods pops an indigo bunting! This is THE bird Ive been hoping to see since the day I knew I was moving here! I que'd up the bunting song and realized why he came. It sounds a lot like the yellowthroat I had been playing.

Now that I know theyre on my property, I'll try to work them til I can really get some nice photos of them....I hope.
As I was stammering thru my ipod app, I accidently pressed the call for an Ovenbird and realized I recognized the call. Ive been hearing it for 3 weeks here on my land and never knew what it was. So as it was getting dark I played it and they just poured out of the woods! These are really cool birds and Im looking forward to gettin on em when theres light.
I have discovered that using this ipod app for birding has a close similarity to fly fishing. you select the fly (bird call) throw it out there and see what bites. When you attract the species youre trying for it's pretty cool. And if you get a good, clean photo of the bird, its like catching the fish. It has become super addicting and I am in a great place to have fun with it. I realize there are very few of us who get a thrill out of this, but I'm sure diggin it!
