This hummer has shown up recently and is quite the ham for the cam. He lands on his favorite stick for a few minutes, flies around, then comes back. Over and over. Everytime he perches, he does this crazy wing stretch. Pretty cool little bird.

J-, Nice! What's your secret for getting the iridescent male shots?? Most of the time I can't get close to the little buggers unless their backs are to the sun or they're silhouetted against the sky.....Some day...maybe!

It just has to do with how the light catches it. They look black from almost every angle, then the light catches it just right and they flash like sequens. They also will rough them up, which makes them stand out and sparkle

I have three different kinds of hanging bird feeders in my backyard in Davis, CA.

Humming bird, Finch and general wild bird.....I put some on the ground for the squirrels and doves too.

Beauty.

It's like someone tied in some red Krystal Flash ala gills on a baitfish pattern. (My apologies to that particular hummingbird who is now offended, I'm sure.)

Nice pictures Jbird. I just love hummingbirds. I have a feeder in the backyard. Love watching them fly up...then another shows and the fight is ON!

They don't seem to like each other very much. Some are real skiddish, but I have a female that will sit and feed even when I'm a few feet away. There's one that looks to have a black head, but when he turns it looks like irridescent red wine coloring. I call him eggplant.

One hit my window last year...thought he was dead, but just rattled. Let him sit in my palm for 5-10 min to recoup, then off he went!

I need to find a way to tame a hummingbird...that way I can sick him on people who bug me. :) I also need a hummingbird cam. Just thinking out loud here...lol
