I've been a little hesitant about really embracing a switch rod for trout until just recently. I always thought it would be mostly overkill and just another rod to lug around. Fished this week on the Middle Fork of the American and proved myself wrong (easily done...) A #5 switch allowed us to really reach out to spots where single handers couldn't especially in in adverse casting conditions. With the streamer game its a ton of fun to literally reach and touch whatever spots you'd like. The switches are a blast swinging soft hackles and with practice can be deadly nymphing. I think this pic sums up the type of water nicely, and rewarded with a dandy brown. We carry more switches than just about anyone, you can get going for $250 for a really nice stick. http://speyshop.kiene.com/switchrods.aspx

Arron, wait till you go out with a single hander again....
"Why can't I make this mend??!!!!"
Switch rods are easy to get used to.
Fish dries, high stick, bobbicate, and swing streamers.....

That.....and the fact that I don't need to overhand cast anymore.....although I still can...but why?
Just round reaching casts that catch fish......even in windy conditions.
And surgical mends!
How did I ever get along without it?
Just because switch guys are evangelical..doesn't mean we're not on to something....

It's the tool for this T. Even though I bought it for the other T.
Especially on fish over 22"....

My Sage 99 has become my "poormans" switch for smaller water/flows..
Snap Ts too....

Where can you wade into the mf? Or what area were you fishing on the mf?

Did some awesome "switchin" for trout yesterday as well with kienes customer joe Punla who had an all day Spey lesson from the man, the myth, the legend Hisashi K.

Awesome to watch a newb toss line like that!

David, unfortunately access is super limited, we were on the horseshoe bar property for the day. Floating it (with an experienced outfitter) is the other option for best results.
