Some streams are fishing well already. Bill Carnazzo is guiding on some of them just east of Sacramento.

Many will be good in June this summer. Most of the mid-elevation streams should fish well like the Upper Sac, McCloud, Pit, Carson, Walker and Truckee Rivers.

Some won't get going till July. The NF of the Yuba River near Downeville seems to get going a little later than most.

As soon as the runoff comes down and the water warms to about 55 degrees most streams should start fishing well for the average fly fisher. Most streams will have about a month that is very good then in mid-summer things can get more challenging with low clear water.

More sofiticate fly fishers can catch fish when conditions are not perfect because they have more knowledge and can adapt to these conditions.

In mid-summer you fish more early and late in the day or sin the deep fast riffles in the day time.

Mid-summer is time for the high country too. 6,000 to 10,000 feet can be perfect in August for fly fishing when we have all that heat in the lower elevations.

Then again in October when thing cool off a little it gets really good again.
