...is to the Upper Sacramento River in June.

I would stay in Dunsmuir, California because it has lots of places to stay and lots of nice restaurants too.

Bob Grace at the Ted Fay Fly Shop can sell you the right flies and give you the right directions to fish the river.

Most nymph fish through the day time taking off in the afternoon, then returning in the evening for dry fly fishing.

There are lots of top fly fishing guides up there but my two favorite are Fred Grodon and Bill Carnazzo.

I would stay in the little funky cabins at the Caves Springs or rent Fred Gordon's house right on the river.

For tent camping or RVing we like the Rail Road Park below Dunsmuir. They also have rental cabins and a good restaurant.

Castle Crags State Park right below Dunsmuir on Interstate 5 is closed.

Most people eat breakfast and lunch at the Cornerstone Bakery and we like Cafe Maddalena's for dinner.

We had a cabin for 10 years in Dunsmuir and might buy one there again with these low prices.

:nod:Thanks Bill! This is great info for someone heading to that area. I think I will change my summer trip destination and head North.:fish:

We will take our little motorhome up there in June and park it in Fred Gordon's yard.

This is some of the finest fly fishing for trout in moving water that we have in Nor Cal.

I would go with a guide for at least the first day so you can learn how to fish that river.

This would be a good trip for anyone from a beginner to a veteran fly fisher.

The beginner can hire a guide who can just give you an all day school on fly fishing.

Later in the summer the heat can slooooow down the fishing and rather than taking a nap at the Dunsmuir City Park, you can play a round of golf at The Mt Shasta Resort! Make a T-time, have a great lunch and beverage or two after 9, finish your 18 and then fish until dark!

A typical day on the river for me would be to fish from first lite until 11:00ish, play a round, and then fish until dark. Gives me 9-10 hours of fishing, plus a round of golf at a GREAT COURSE(get a cart)!!

Real bummer about the closing of Castle Crags CG, great spot, especially the CG on the east side.

And don't forget Micki's for a milk shake!!
