Starting to get a compilation of some decent shots here on my property. Some new birds are beginning to show. The Warblers, Orioles, Tanagers, etc. should be migrating thru soon so stay tuned!

Cardinals are very abundant around here and man can they belt out some noise!!

The same goes for bluejays. Very loud, bullyish birds. tho, like Cardinals, very shy when it comes to people.

Thes pictures were taken from my truck window in my driveway. They are too shy to approach on foot. I called them in with my ipod. (same with the male cardinal above)

The Goldfinches are in their full mating colors now. they look like stars shooting thru the forest!

The chickadee are always around and not shy at all.

A male downey woodpecker...pecking wood

I photographed this guy and spent over an hour in my books and online trying to ID it. It just had to be a warbler or verio. Then I read that a ruby crowned kinglet only flashes his crown breifly and is often mistaken as a warbler or vireo.

So I went back out with my ipod and que'd up his song. It didnt take long for him to show. And he even flashed me for my trouble :-)

Thats it for now.

Thanks guys! Our general fishing season opens in a couple weeks. Hopefully I can get out and start posting something other than birds.

Glad you were able to sell it Mark. As much as I want one, I just dont have a good enough excuse to get one yet. They sure are cool cameras tho! Always thought it would be sweet to mount one where I could plan for a bird to land and watch him fly in in slow mo HD.

Jay,
what app are you using to call the birds?

Thanks, Jay. Made my day! I do object to you calling the cardinal's song "loud noise."
I love that call. Can't wait until my annual trek to Michigan to experience it.
Best,
Larry S

I use 2 apps. One is called ChirpUSA. and the other is Audubon Birds.

Thanks for the post J, I'm a serious birder thanks to Colin Stokes. We have so many Ruby Crowned Kinglets here in the Nevada City area. I had a new buddy over the winter in the backyard and saw some kin of his on the Lower Yuba eating Skwala stoneflies - The Hermit Thrush....

Jbird - Awesome photos of some beautiful birds, almost makes me miss the midwest!

Jon - The hermit thrush has the most enchanting song i have ever heard. Can't remember the specifics, but i recall reading an Edward Abbey quote about how the song of the hermit thrush seems to come from the forest itself... Anyone who has heard this song when deep in the mountains can understand this.

Keep the photos coming!
