The Europeans have been using them but they are not that popular here yet.

This winter Jason Hartwick was testing some new SA Mastery Skagit Extreme Intermediate sinking heads on the coastal rivers.

The Guide Line from crew from Denmark was in a few days ago, here for the Spey-O-Rama, and we talked about their sinking heads and use in Europe.

In the deeper slower cold water of winter you get a better contact with your fly.

These are not new but are going to be part of the west coast Spey deal now.....

The Skagit extreme fishes great. It to will took me a while to get it dialed in on where and how to fish it.
If you try to use t11 or 14 you will be in the rocks all the time. I have been using a 12 ft tip made out of SA 4 sink Shooting head that I cut up and it casts like a rocket. I would reccomend using a head that is one size smaller than you normally use also.

I fished with a couple of guys from Medford that use the Guideline heads almost exclusively. They require a different casting stroke than skagit heads and also require you to do some cutting to fine tune them to your rod.

Great line to fish runs that have little to no structure.
