Anyone ever fish coffee creek (off the trinity)? Not looking for secret holes, but any lodging, camping areas and generally good access to trout fishing? When is a good month to fish?
Any info is much appreciated.

That is where I want my ashes spread when I die. I love that place, been going there since my memory began and just took a trip up there in August.

Mostly private property where coffee creek rd begins but several miles up it turns into a dirt road that follows the river pretty well. You can spot the good spots from your car for the most part. There are some steeper canyons but its not too bad. the water rips through on heavy rain years but i think this year your fine.

Fishing wise theres not much pressure because there are a ton of better places to fish in the area.

There are also some high lakes that are pretty fishy if you have a horse or motorcycle.

I think there is a campground about 6mi up CC rd. just past coffeee creek ranch look for a bridge on the left, although it may be a day use area. I know there is a forrest service campground somewhere up there. Im sure you can rent a cabin at coffee creek ranch as well.

Right when you turn onto CC rd there is a right turn and a store (with beer) and forrest service station you can ask at.

Let me think of some more info and PM you. You owe some pictures when you get back though.

Out of curiosity, what made you think to go there?

I visited CC in June a few years in a row, maybe 9 years ago, before I resumed fishing. It's an absolutely lovely creek and there is a nice campground as described above, above the CC ranch a mile or so, right on the water. The first year in the area I saw 13 different species of terrestrial native orchids in a week, including Phantom Orchids by the score (if you like that sort of thing:

The www.trinityflyshop.com gave me some advice on fishing that area the second or third year I was up there -- sold me a beginner's fly rod and some nymphs I had no idea what to do with ; ) You might try them for advice -- they were friendly and free with it with me -- I was just too clueless to know what to do with it at the time.

At this point I may be dipping my toes in hijaking your thread... maybe not.

I struggled with the idea of posting pics and info (not that the pics or info is that good) of the place that means so much to me but maybe if there is intrest in the area it will help its economy and potentially help restore a creek that has had a rough past. I encorage you to stop by the dredges near lake trinity and check out the damage man can do (theres bass there too).

I dont think you should overlook terrestrials here, wait, is a grasshopper a terrestrial?

NIce pics and info slice. Areas up in the mtns like that could use a little economy stimulus. Even if its just a few fly nerds buyin beer and flies. Keep them pics coming....

Sometimes you have to chase that big fish, whatever the cost....

I think it's fair to share info on Coffee Creek. It's not a "great" creek, and not a place to make a 5 hour trip to visit.

I live in Weaverville, so I've been there plenty of times. It's a stunningly beautiful little creek, with beautiful little fish. 12 inches is a huge fish. Lots of access, and a wonderful place to be alone with nature.

I love to fish dry flies with my 2 wt. You can also fish the Upper Trinity, which is about the size of Coffee Creek.

I usually go after the Fly Fishing only area has closed. I also like the North Fork Coffee Creek, which is about a mile or so into the wilderness area. I spent a weekend in the wilderness alone with my dog. It was amazing.

Great pics, Slice. This isn't a place to catch the biggest fish ever, but it a wonderful place to get away from other humans and to spend a wonderful weekend with your loved ones. It is a spectacular place with plenty of little fish.
