A customer was in today who is headed to 'Wild Billy Lake' for his second time.

http://www.wildbillylake.com/

He said he really enjoyed it and was headed back up there this summer.

He said they have 2 cabins right on the lake.

Take a look at their web site....really good rates for a group of up to 13.

Bill;

You need to buy the 1200 acre Wild Billy Ranch for a vacation retreat. On the Internet for a cool $4,105,000. Chump change to a rich fly shop owner.

A member of my local fly fishing club, Gold Country Fly Fishers has great things to say about Wild Billy. It is his favorite still water and he has been fly fishing still waters for a long time. He goes there every year.

Website only says South Central Oregon; that's a big area. I emailed them, see what they say.
The prices look good; cabins are free with rod fees.

The landscape in photos seem vaguely familiar to me, would this happen to be the Hyde Lake that we fished several times in the early nineties? Or is this lakes general location and proximity to Hyde Lake just a coincidence?

Best, Dave

Just phoned the lake and talked with the managers.

They said it was spring and fall for the best fishing.

Closed July through September.

April/May/June and Oct/Nov.

Must be fairly low elevation.

Hyde Lake is actually called Hawks lake on google maps. Its a few miles to the NW from Wild Billy

Its definitly not low elevation. That high desert area runs between 3500-4500' elevation in the flat lands. Its likely got a similar makeup as Klamath Lake (shallow and weedy) which can get very warm in the summer which is why the fish move onto the springs in the warm months. Without any siginificant springs or creek influence lakes can get super warm. I believe Hyde lake follows that closure as well.

Just got a nice email reply from the lake manager:

Bill,
Thanks for the call. I really enjoyed the forum conversation. We have some great dates left in June and October and Novemeber if you would like to give it try. Several fish in the 27" range last two weeks.
