Flows on the Upper Sacramento River have been moving up and down with the storm surges coming through and whenever the flows are waning the fishing has been quite good. The National Weather Service is predicting another short pulse and then clearing for the weekend. We are anticipating some excellent fishing in the coming weeks with the improving weather and flows.

Warmer weather likely will get the springtime hatches started and we will be looking for some dry fly opportunities as well. Hatches continue to be sparse with some midday caddis, a few precocious mayflies and some lingering small winter stones, particularly on the warmer days. The upper and middle river have been fishing best as tributaries are contributing significantly to the flows downstream.

Local guides have enjoyed some superb days recently and have been pleasantly surprised by the average size of fish and the excellent condition of the wild Rainbows as we have experienced a relatively mild winter with the majority of weather coming in the last month. Guests have been pleased with some good action recently including some big beautiful Rainbows to hand. Visit our website for pictures.

Most action has been nymphing with two fly rigs, some days the fish seem to want a big mouthful, on other days they prefer the tidbits. We also enjoyed some good action with dry flies and droppers this week. Snowpack remains well below the norm and we are anticipating an early runoff. The early season is promising to be a good one, we recommend that you plan a trip soon. Drop us a line if you are headed our way we are always pleased to share all we can.
