Yuba question

I've never fished it, but would like to plan a day trip soon. What flows should I be looking for that would be ideal for wading?

Well, I typically float the Yuba, however I rarely will float it if the flows are above 3,500 to 4,000 cfs. For wading I would say it could be worth it at around 2,000 to 2,500 cfs. Just remember the fish on the Yuba tend hang close to the bank, so often times there isn't a need to wade out very far. good luck.

right now it is going to be an issue of clarity as well as flow. River fishes good from 4000cfs down to 700. Deer Creek is what usually brings in color so check the flows of that and make sure they are down around 10-40cfs. With all the rain lately I would imagine the reservoir is muddy so it will be a week or so with now rain before that clears.

Ideal flows would be not greater than ~1,200. This allows you to cross the river at a couple places safely wading. Anything more than that you have to stay on one side.

But the average flows generally are around 3,000 or so.....typically there is a spring period near the end of the flood control season but before the usual summer water transfers where it can be lower. Then it goes up in June-late August, if there is water to transfer. The lowest flows are in the fall (Sept-Oct) when the salmon spawn and it is held constant for awhile. Then it rains, or not, and could be anything. This year it was mostly ~700 cfs in the winter.

You can fish it off-color, and catch fish, and see fish rise. It depends. It is true as already stated that you don't have to wade or fish deep.

i'm not sure if you are talking upper or lower yuba.

upper meaning along 49 near downieville or lower down towards hwy 20 bridge. seems like lower has all the reports near the hwy 20 bridge. a bigger tailwater. i think up near downieville is a lot of rocky smaller pocket water.

while the lower is nice, a 'perfect looking' stream to me is the upper with a picture like this:

Have decided to wait on the Yuba. Wish my other spots would open up already! Might have to do another East Walker trip instead
