View Full Version : WTB: Travel Rod
Howdy folks,
I'm looking for a travel rod. Single hand 4 to 6 weight. 5+ pieces. Sorry, a 4 piece 9' is a little too large for my suitcase.
Thanks!

How about an 8'6" 4 piece 5wt? Still to long?
Sadly, I think the 8'6" 4 piece is too long. I'm looking for a 9 foot rod that breaks down to a 16" - 20" size. Smaller the better.

I have a Orvis frequent flyer 7 peice 3wt 8' 6". I wouldn't say its a true 3wt. I line it up with a 5 weight line. Fished it on a backpack trip, the truckee and caught some decent size carp on it.

Maybe Bill has some of the TFO 6 piece Prof. series rods at his shop (not sure if they carry the 6 pc)? I know they were all on sale for a while. I bought one, I like it. It's a little heavy, but not bad for the price.

send me a pm, I just found a rod in the closet. I think it's a 5 piece or even a 6 piece. I guess I should open up the rod tube:-)

We sell a ton of Redington "Classic Trout" series in 9'#5 in 6 pieces for $169.00
They come with a lifetime warranty and a nice cordura covered hard rod tube with dividers.
They are a true 5 weight were most of the affordable multi-piece 5 weights are stiffer and are actually a 6 weight.

I was also looking for a ultrapackable travel rod and seriously considered the 6-piece CT, but ending up going with a couple of March Brown Hidden Waters 7-piece rods for extra portability.
However, the 6-piece CT is a very good deal for the price point, and perhaps the best available right now (the only comp I can think of off the top of my head is the Cabela's Stowaway 6 series, which retail for $149.99-$159.99). Although I haven't tried one out personally, I've heard great things, and so my recommendation would be to stop in at Kiene's to try one out if you're in the area.
