Retired today and got an unexpected bonus on my seperation check. I've decided to jump into the DH game after a year of learning a few basic spey casts on the SH'er. I'm a cheap bastard, bought most rods (quality) off the classifieds and Ebay. But this time, I am ordering a Meiser Highlander Classic 11'-7" 5/6/7. I just got off the phone with Bob. What a neat guy. Also ordering a custom Scandi built to the rod with an integrated running line.
I am so pumped!

I got a 6 weight S series from Bob last Fall and absolutely love the rod. Bob is a class act. I think you are going to like that rod.

I recently received one of Bob's six weights and got to try it out yesterday on the American. It came with one of Steve's custom Scandi lines with integrated running line. I started out with a 15' slow-sink polyleader and couldn't get that sucker to turn over and most of my casts just stalled. I then switched to a 420gr Skagit with 10' of T-11 (5' sink) and suddenly things started working beautifully. What a sweet rod!!

Later I noticed that Steve recommended 10' poly leaders for this line and I got to wondering if that extra 5' could really make that much of a difference. The line is 34.9' and weighs 442gr. Then again, things worked really well with 10' of T-11. Clearly, I need to experiment more with that Scandi line. After all, it is supposedly perfectly matched for my 1306s-4.

Any thoughts on this?

When Bob & I were discussing the line he was emphatic in recommending polyleadrs.
