Fished this little Nr Cal stream two years ago and hooked and released about 25 fish in one
day. All on poppers.

Have not fished it since. Not sure why?

We will have to get it out of him some how?

I think I saw a helicopter in the background of one of those pictures?

Outing a good Smallmouth stream would be in poor taste , and could lead to bad things .

VERY BAD THINGS .

Go fish the Truckee ......

Nice spotted bass Jerry! Not to mention the smallies... Any chance this flows into the Sac at Red Bluff or upstream?:D

I think there are "quiet" spots like this up and down the valley where the lower elevation streams almost never get fished because of private access....

Looks like the consumnes river, but I don't think there are spots in there

One of the bb members sent me a photo of Spotted Bass taken underwater in the Cosumnes River. So, they do occupy stretches of it. There may've been a concern that Spots compete heavily for food/space with Smallmouth, too. :|

They're just about everywhere in the State today. They completely ruined the great smallmouth fishery in Shasta Lake when they were introduced there back in the mid 80's. DFG put them in most of our reservoirs because they spawn deeper than the LMB and SMB and therefore not subject to as much damage by draw downs during the spawning periods. A consequence of that not well thought out plan, is that unless you want to fish 50-80 feet deep, your only going to catch cookie-cutter 10-14" spots! Shasta Smallmouth were one of the best top water fisheries in the State before DFG ruined it! I can remember late afternoon till dark fishin' topwater and you couldn't count the numbers of smallmouth and most would average 1-3 lbs.
Now Spots are in most drainages that have "warm water" reservoirs, clear down to the Delta.
"Progress" sucks!

Well.....I could lie, and say it was a joke. But, it was a misunderstanding of your wording; and huge lack of attention to the hardwoods in the background that still had leaves.:o

Ed and I were talking about the pics. shortly after I posted that. He pointed out my blunder, but I was lazy and forgot to go back and edit.
