Locally we have Steelhead in most valley rivers and many of the coastal rivers. This is effected by weather/rain. The valley rivers are more consistant as far as being fishable because of the dams that control the flows.

Small coastal rivers with no dams are very on and off. These rivers can be either too low or too high and muddy. If you can hit it after a storm as it starts to clear you can have a chance to hook a wild hot fish.

Many Nor Cal reservoirs have winter trout fishing of which many are a planted fishery. Lake Amador and Rancho Seco come to mind first for me. Usually you need a float tube, pontoon boat or small boat to have a chance to find fish.

Pyramid Lake in Nevada can be good November through April and is a wading or step ladder situation.

Baum Lake is a famouis Nor Cal winter fishery too.

If you have the time and money you can always go to Argentina, Chili or New Zealand for some fine trout fishing?

Some will go to the tropics in the winter for a nice warm getaway and some flats fishing for Bonefish.

Winter is also the time for Peacock Bass in the Amazon.

Anglers Inn on El Salto Reservoir in Mexico is a winter fishery too.
