Word has it that Steve Vaughn closed the shop after the first of the year. He still plans on working with gun sales, however, the shop is currently closed.

Thanks for that info. It sucks. I loved to go in there and swap stories and inevitably he pointed me in the right direction no matter what waters I fished up there. I am disappointed.
Hat Creek area wont be the same without them.

Well I guess that Steve, like many of us, is getting old.

That is a big part of the histroy in Nor Cal for many decades.

If we did not have such a good manager and staff we might be retired by now too.

As visiting anglers to the area, it’s our loss, but its also loss to their community.

Best, Dave

I remember going into Vaughns Sporting Goods in 1978. Back then, good hackle was in short supply and it was considered OK to cut the hackle in a circle to fit the size of the hook after it was tied on.

Unfortunately, Steve will not be working with gun sales either.

It is sad to hear about Vaughn’s. I called on them for years when I was a sales representative in the fly fishing industry. It was not only a great store, but an invaluable source of information. Cheers to you Steve and Jann for such a great run!

Too bad...I met Bing Crosby there back in the early '70s when Steve's dad Walt had the shop.
