..to see what was out after two days of stormy weather... I found a few hungry birds...

Here's one I've never seen before.... One of jbird's buddies a Lewis's woodpecker..with and eye out for a meal...

Off he goes....

Makes the catch! (Too bad the 9ers defense didn't do as good instead of runnin' into each other..)

Back to the lookout post...

Love that 3rd shot! You nailed it.
Used to have quite a few burrowing owls in my area before all of the
development. They seem to have been replaced by dumpster divers.
Thanks for your contributions.

Nice Mike! A potato bug! YUCK! Cute little owl.

I got my iPod for Christmas, thought I was the last person in the free world to have one. I still don't have any music on it. Lol. Had no idea I could use it for birding. This app is also connected to ebird. So if there's wi fi I can connect to their database and see what's been observed recently in my area. That's how I found the cardinal yesterday. The app also has all the info you could want for different birds. I'm discovering too that using the bird calls is teaching me the calls so I know what's out there by their calls. It's completely changed the game for me :-)

Larry,
I'd like nothin' better than to say that "I timed that shot perfectly" but the truth is I didn't know what I had until I downloaded it to the computer.

I guess I'm gonna have to put one of those iPods on my wish list for my Birthday. My problem is after a lifetime of building and workin' in powerhouses, oil refineries and chemical plants, also usin' rifles and shotguns since I was a kid, I can't hear birds, crickets or "spring peepers" (Pacific Tree Frogs) without hearin' aids. I would guess I could hear the bird songs on the iPod though which would be reason enough to buy the thing!
