This is in Europe but we have the giant Hexogenia Mayfly up on the Fall River around the 4th of July and in many other CA lakes like Almanor.

They are really thick in Michagan too.

It is usually an evening hatch and the big preditors really come out for them.

BBC’s “Life in the Undergrowth” packed in an incredible amount of info and footage into this four-minute clip. Highlighting the Giant Mayfly—specifically a hatch on a Hungarian river—the video features trout jumping out of the water to devour massive flies, as well as a lesser-known predator (at least in fly fishing circles): birds.

I have had that video clip on my website for over two years, it is very cool and I love the big bugs!
