Wow Jay, nice shot!

I lived in Northern Il. for years when I was growing up and never saw an Otter at all, not to mention one out on the ice.

He's giving you the stink eye, did it dive in quick?

How far away would you guestimate?

Ed, according to the EXIF details he was 39.8 meters.(130ish ft) I didnt realise it was nearly that far. Pretty fricken long way for my little lens.

I was driving a remote road along a frozen stream in the north woods. I came across this wide spot with an otter next to a hole right in the middle. It was the only hole in the ice so I knew he wasnt going far. I pulled over and set up with the tripod. he would dive down and hide for a couple minutes at a time, then climb out and glare at me.
