Atsa somma nice Skippie!!!! For my own fishing, I've caught enough of them to fill my ticket. They fight too hard for a fish you can't eat, waste too much energy fighting/landing 'em.... If I'm gonna catch Tuna like fishes, I'm going for Ahi. They fight just as hard but when you're done, there's some great sashimi waiting.... YUM!!! :D

Skippie's, definitely a hard fighting fish no matter how large. Here's a skippie that was close to 18lbs, notice the sweat, ya wanta play the game.

Here's a tuna that was caught October 2011. Although a slow year for Oct. we still had some tuna around, along with some dorado
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/jaysflies/Tuna-1.jpg
Around 50lbs of sashimi

Fish taco's and sashimi
But in late May, we had yellow fin tuna that were in the 300lb range, not for fly guys though. I've been looking for a photo of Tony Serpa who caught a 50lb+ tuna on a 9wt rod out at the "88". Can you imagine 300lbs. I talked with one of the conventional boys who landed one and it took him 5 hours. His buddies didn't want anything to do with it.
I have a October trip planned this year. The date is Sept. 29th - Oct 6th The price is still $1,600. for 7 nights/6 days. For more information, visit my website. www.bajaflyfishingadventures.com to see what's included in the package. I'm only booking 8 people for this trip, I have two spots already taken.
Don't delay, there will be a slight price increase next season due to my rising costs accured this year.
Not to late to sign up for a trip this year
Thanks and hope to see you on the waters in Baja

Looks like the top skippie is a different species than the black skipjack. Is that correct?

Actually, after looking at it again, I think you might be right. Not sure what version it is, tho.... Definitely different markings.
Checked out my book/youtube and found it looks a lot like a Skipjack Tuna. Apparently, it's as inedible as the Black Skipjack. Altho, there's a video on Youtube that describes cleaning and prep for eating.... YUK!!!!

Top fish is a skip jack tuna (barrilete) the low one is a black skip jack (barrilete Negro)

The skip jack tuna or barrilete has a brilliant blue back with silver white sides and dark stripes on the white belly
the Black skipjack has a contiguous spiny and soft dorsal, 3 large dots under the pectoral fin and black stripes down the back. The black stripes usually start fading once the fish dies.

Here's a few big roosters that were taken last May, which is probably the best time for them
Timing is tough, a couple years ago, it was the first part of May, this past season it started a week later, go figure - it is what it is

He came all the way from New Calendonia just for a rooster

Mike from Boise, Id.

Ted from Southern Cal, works at the Fishermen Spot in Van Nuys. Unfortunately this rooster died but fed a lot of locals
This is my 26th year doing the baja. Spending 3 to 4 months at a time, you get to know the game.
See you in Baja

Baja Mexico is close for us on the west coast and is the most resonable saltwater fishing we have.
Spring and fall are very popular but I think it is good all summer too.

November thru April is probably the toughest time to fish, colder water, cooler air temperatures and cold north winds. But you can still catch a fish or two.
May is usually the start of the season with roosters, jacks, skip jack and maybe a few dorado
June is a better time for Dorado, tuna, sails, pargo,
July, more dorado, sails, marlin, roosters, warming weather
Aug.Dorado, sails, marlin, tuna - getting hotter and chance for a hurricane
Sept. Dorado, sails, marlin, tuna, and hot but starting to cool hurricane chances still there
Oct. Dorado, tuna, sails, jacks, skip jack, bonito
With all the years I have down in the baja, things change daily. I've seen bull dorado at the end of April, just depends on water conditions
