My group and I are enjoying another fantastic week here at Lake El Salto in Mexico. We are enjoying the wonderful lodge Anglers Inn including their fantastic service, scrumptious meals, and warm hospitality. And of course, a ton of fun fly rodding for Largemouth Bass! Here are a few teaser sample photos from mid-week... Fish On!

The weather looks a bit c-c-cold for this time of year down there. Nice looking Bass, tho.

Was the person standing in the boat while another was retrieving Ken Hanley :?:

Darian, it is only cool in the early mornings and at that time the top water bite can be scary wild too.

I was extermely fortunate to be able to go on this wonderful trip a few years ago.

This is the most popular annual trip out of our fly shop now and is best in Dec/Jan.

It is very fast and easy to get to (Matzatlan, MX) and very affordable ($1890) and the fishing is always off the chart.

With all of us enjoying the Delta LMB, I think this trip is just a natural for most of us.

It is one of the most famous LMB fisheries in the world right now.

We have this big group out of the shop down there right now with Keith Kaneko, owner of Angling On the Fly Travel Service.

Terry Thomas and Jim Christensen, who work at our shop, are both on this trip too, which is probably their 3rd or 4th time down there.

If you think you would like to go down there we have another trip on January 11, 2012 hosted by famous Umpqua fly developer Charlie Bisharat.

Charlie developed the Airhead and Pole Dancer flies plus has a bunch of new flies coming this year with Umpqua.

On this trip you will be able to help Charlie field test some of his latest new patterns.

Natually this trip will have some other really fun Nor Cal folks on it too.

We use 9' #7, 8 and 9 weight rods mostly, plus those shorter "under 8 foot" bass rods for top water.

This group that is there right now will be home soon if you want to come in and talk to them about it.

Charlie has a few spots open so if you think you would like to do some of the best fly fishing for LMB in the world give us or Angling On the Fly a call soon.

Bill,

I am really looking forward to getting down to El Salto with my group. There are so many big bass to try and fool.I am pretty confident that these bass will not have seen a lot of the flies they are about to. Hope that makes a difference.

As you mentioned there are a couple of spots still available and as luck would have it my boat partner has had to drop out after having an unexpected heavyweight vehicle repair.

We will have a great time and in talking with Keith he seems to think my week will be the prime top water time of the season. Something that absolutely not break my heart. Grin . I want someone to break that magical 10 pound threshold.

Cheers and I will post a report when I get back.

Howdy Darian,
Yup that was me in the boat. Mexico's largemouth never fail to make me smile. Always worth the adventure.
Cheers, Ken
