My grandson wants a spotting scope for Xmas. It'll be range use only, so it doesn't need to be super zoom or anything fancy. He's taking rifle, pistol and later shotgun in FHA. Great program! I'd like to keep it at $100 or less.

I bought one at Costco for my daughter for Christmas, as she loves to go birding, but is still a little young to focus binocs on her own.

Haven't tried it yet, but at $70 and with the ability to return it with no questions asked at costco, seemed to be worth taking a chance...

Check out Big 5. They sell them pretty cheap.

Decided on one of these for now:

Their return policy is excellent; in the meantime a local pawnshop is looking for a higher quality unit for me, if this works out, may upgrade. The kid loves shooting and is pretty good at it. THat's what counts.
Thanks to all for the info,
Rob

I picked up a Barska 20-60 power scope 3 years ago from Cabelas...I keep it in the truck, it's been on 3 trips to Idaho and Montana and performs as well as more expensive units with the exception of the 1st and last hours of light, but then I'm using my 10X42 binoculars for a little closer in work during those times.

I would like to get one to keep in the motor home to look at birds.
