Smith River Today

Three of us hooked nine salmon and landed two. Our guess is that at least four were fair hooked. This is my 26 pound fish and the other was 18 pounds. Most hooked on orange comets on Type IV sinking lines.

Hey Langenbeck....does the Rowdy Creek Hatchery only take eggs from 40lbs. + salmon still?

When i use to fish for salmon on the Smith we tried to time the run of the 40 pounders that went in to Rowdy Creek Hatchery.

Don't have any info on what Rowdy Creek Hatchery uses for their gene pool. Yesterday got a report from an impeccable source that he say a male caught by a fly fisherman that bottomed out a 50 pound scale.

Happened to be in Brookings, OR on Nov. 25 and passed by the Smith. I stopped at Jed. Smith State Park where I saw 20+ drift boats fishing the stretch. I stopped to talk to a few guys and they told me, "don't bother fly fishing the Smith, nobody every catches anything". Glad to have you prove them wrong. Your an inspiration.
