Thanks , Jbird !
Truth ? I feel safer in Baja Sur/La Ribera than I do here in the States - I tend not to do stupid things while I'm down there , and I have a lot of Mexican Friends . The dope situation is on the mainland , and in the North of Baja .... not many issues for a person like me ...... a working-class (not flashing any bling) , surf-fishing idiot .
I don't think I've ever heard of any issues at Hotel Punta Colorada , and I've been going down for several years . Let's hope my airline doesn't go out of business this time ! Hehehehe ...

That sounds like just what the doctor ordered.
Not any problems much in Baja.....it's pretty quiet.

From all of the recent reports, you might have a chance at getting some Dorado from surf in the deeper waters off the light house point area. 8) Good luck.... :D

Guys - Thanks for the warm wishes !
Yeah , Dorado were in WAAAAY close 10 or so days ago , JC have been running to the 30 Lb. range . The TFO 12x12 with a 475 Tropic Express sinking and straight 25 Lb. leader should hopefully slow those bastards down a little ....
The Sierra are in right now, along with lots of dink Sardina - I'm taking my Smallmouth rod (Fenwick World Class , 8 foot , 6 wt. , 4 piece) down just to goof with . Taking two 6 wts. , a 7 , 8 , and 9 wt. , and 2 doubles .
Talk soon -

Epic .
Old record of 204 fish in 15 days is toast - landed 213 in 12 days off the sand . Tuna off the beach (!!!!!!) , large Toro on the 6 wt. , BIG Ladyfish that couldn't be handled on a 7 wt. , Sierra 10 feet from dry land , camp reef INFESTED w/ Roosterfish .... total insanity .
I'll post the usual multi-part report w/ photos in a day or two .

Jay -
Candida landed two . The first , I believe ... was a Mexican Striped Bonito of 5 or 6 Lbs. . No one could do a proper I.D. on it , it had a single small dark spot below the pec fin on one side which Bonito are not supposed to have (Black Skipjack have several small/medium Black dots below the pec fin) . A hybrid ?? Who knows .... we gave it to a Friend who later told us it had White meat , so that would be a Mexican Striped Bonito .
Second fish was a Black Skipjack of 8-10 Lbs. , it was bleeding a bit so we didn't get a photo because we wanted to get it back in the water ASAP . Both were taken by Candida on 12 Lb. line , medium light spinning gear , both hit within 40 FEET of the sand . She handled both like a Pro - the first made screaming 150+ yard runs . I had a run of bad luck .... standing beside her as both fish hit with no takes on the fly ....
Both were taken on a small Rapala X-Rap in Sardine color . While they were not Yellowfin Tuna , Bonito/Skipjack ARE in the Tuna Family , so they count from my perspective !
Both were taken within 200 yards of the Lighthouse at Punta Arena . I had the great(insane ??) idea of fishing there with a 6 wt. for a few days - all fun and games messin' with the Green Jacks until I hooked something I wished I could get rid of , turned out to be a 9-12 Lb. Jack/Toro/JC . The Mexicans were amused by my repeated jogs up and down the same stretch of beach for 15 minutes trying to land that bugger on a 12 Lb. tippet !
I'll post more later , have to clean gear -

WOW!!!! A Skippie from the beach.... That's an accomplishment. Lotsa guys say that Skippies fight as hard or harder than Yellowfin Tuna. Congrats to Candida. And a Toro on 12 pound tippet using a 6 weight rod??? Possibly insane....
Really sounds like you guys had a good trip. :D I was worried that you'd get caught up in all of the windy weather down there. :-|

Hey David,
Sounds like another great trip down there:)
Tuna from the sand is pretty cool and sounds like you both had some quantity and quality fishing.
Glad you both had a good time!
