Had a nice phone conversation with one of our customers who lives in Vermont.

He said that this summer in Canada's Atlantic coastal rivers it has been very good for Atlantic Salmon.

He said that his local fly shop had a group go up there and did very well.

He said the Miramichi River and other near it have been very good.

He said this is largely due to some new rulings on netting off the coast.

I think we need to get a small group together for next summer and head back there.

I know that Don Powell has a connection to some fishing back there.

I fished the Miramichi with Joe Shirshac, truly a legendary Sacramento fly fisherman, in 1999 and 2000. My best Atlantic salmon was 34" and approximately 13-14 pounds.
In 2005, I learned of Ann Smith of Quebec Sporting at the Fly Fishing Show held in San Rafael instead of the current location in Pleasanton. In my four trips with Ann, I hooked Atlantics on dry fly Bombers and traditional floating line wet fly swing techniques that when landed, measured 30-46 inches and weighed 8-32 pounds.. Salmo Salar, otherwise known as Atlantic salmon, are a species any dedicated fly fisher owes it to themselves to pursue...

Visit Quebec Sporting, Ann Smith's website if you are interested.
I am in no way connected other than being a highly satisfied patron of their services...

Oh, and I must mention- I researched Atlantic salmon destinations extensively... I could have spent $12,000 plus airfare to the Kola peninsula of Russia or $3,500 plus considerably less airfare to Gaspe for bigger Atlantics than those caught as recorded in Russia during those years!!!

Food for thought?
