Just got back from Idaho where the steelhead were plenty. Fished for three days and ended up with 4 "B run" fish, one of which was caught while skating. This place was amazing for the sheer fact that over 4000 were coming over the dam daily and you could see them boiling as you drove up the river to choose your run. Not many fisherman yet due to the catch and release regs for that time of year, which made for excellent swinging conditions. Definitely worth the trip!

Thanks for the report.

Some of my friends go there so I might try to get there to see it in person some fall.

Calling bs on this post on several accounts.

4000 fish over in a day recently? Wrong.

FIsh boiling as you drive up. Yup, trout and salmon, not likely steelhead.

4 B runs. Dude, you must be a Jedi as it is the only 4 caught here as of yet.

Just goes to show you can't believe everything you rea on the Internet.

The other report a fee threads up is accurate, this, well, is no stranger to hyperbole.

loganmike, so you were there? check out this website im going to post for you and you can see for yourself how many were coming over lower granite dam for last week. Im not some gumby that doest know a trout rise form from something that looks like it is eating baby ducks off the surface. If I knew how to post pictures of all these fish on here without some error happening I would too, you will just have to take my word for it. It just so happens that I may have some experience in this department too, dont be so quick to judge.

October 15th, the official first rude steelhead post. Thanks LM, we may have had to wait until Jan for that. :(

Hey Rip, there's a sticky on the General Fly Fishing column that will explain how to easily post pics here.

Let the bad ones just roll dude. They're not important anyway.

:-D

Yup, thanks ed, someone had to start it.

I call is as I see it. I live here dude, so yeah, i was there, am there, and will be there tomorrow at Maintenance yard run.

I know the difference between steelhead rolling all over and salmon, some do not. Not saying it is you, jsut saying the probability of it is low.

As far as your granite counts. I would not say it is 4000 average, as far as I can tell

http://www.fpc.org/currentdaily/7day-ytd_Adults.htm

There has not been 4000 over lower granite in a helluva long time.

Just saying, if your gonna post steelhead reports make it accurate.

the accurate report here is the GR is fishing slow, 2 fish for 2 ten hour 2 people days.

CW is fishing OK, 2 fish for 3 people 8 hour fishing days. Ic an post more real reports tomorrow if you want.

Yeah, ed, I'll take the first dick post of the year. I have been called out on this board before for posting reports without naming rivers.

Is say if you are gonna say it, at least be accurate.

have fun, I'll be at Maintenance run at 6 am if any of you wanna have a beer and cigar.

me

PS: again, sorry about the dick post, just don't want people to drive and come thousand miles for normal conditions. I am sure you can ask anyone who ahs been here as of late. It is gorgeous and something everyone should fish in their life. But plenty of steelhead there are not.

with that, if you are here, give me a shout, I'll buy you a beer at Hogan's!

cheers

I didnt know I would get scolded for having a good trip and sharing with some good people. I guess someone has a case of pee pee pants or they just dont want crowds on their waters.

Not to get into a detail war or anything, but your website was very handy in finding out that I was there when a curious amount(4000+) of fish were coming through the system and had been for about three weeks.

To me, having over 160,000 of those buggers come into the system this year seems like a pretty round number compared to most places. Coming from california's steelhead waters that seems like shangri la.

Sorry to get defensive on you man, the timing was right and I happen to be there for it. Im not trying to sell everyone a trip to Idaho, Im trying to get people ramped for whats to come this season for some more lucky souls out there.

Cheers,
Off to the run.

Just returned after fishing for 6 days. Beautiful steelhead weather. Everything was lined up and perfect ... except somebody forgot to invite the steelies to the dance. Between 5 of us, 7 grabs and only two 30" to the net. No sighting of fish boiling or greyhounding upstream. They are in there but not the numbers one would like to think. Perhaps it will continue to get better but I would say we fished hard and tugs were hard to come by. But hell, that's steelheading right? Make sure if you go to be in your spot early! You miss it and you start scrambling around to your alternate spots and pray it is open... In short, great ass time... but the catching could of been better.

Looks better than the Lower American River.....

It is time for the good fall Steelheading so just try to go.

There are several variables with SH fishing:

For starts, just being there helps

Returns for the season

Being in a run or runs with fish

Water/weather conditions

and sadly, skill level.
