Out early this AM and hooked 5 and landed 3 wild fish of 23, 23 and 26"s all taken on a Size 12 ice nymph. All fish taken very early.

Gordon:
A great start to the season. Are the overall numbers up for the Rogue?
Hope you continue your good run.

Larry,
With the removal of Gold Rey Dam there is no longer a fish counting station. From my limited observation it is an excellent run with a very high percentage of wild fish with the bulk of them between 22-26"s. Very, very few fish under 22"s. Just hope it continues.

Wonderful Gordon

We have two groups of people from the shop going to the Rogue River staying at Morrison's Lodge in late October.

How long will you fish? Though November?

Bill,

As long as water conditions are ok will fish for summer fish till mid-Dec. My best fishing on the Rogue is usually late Nov when all you catch are wild fish.

Gordon, you have to put a story or two with some of thee fish you land some time :)

Do you do any trips for the wild fish on the Umpqua? What do you think of that fishery compared to The Rogue?

I was there with some friends about a month ago during high water and we got a lot of 16-20" fish on the swing w spey/switch rods along with some coastal cutties, but no big fish on the swing. I did manage to wrangle one pushing 30" on a green rubber leg copper john sort of nymph I had tied years ago and forgot I had. We nymphed while we drifted between the good swinging runs. A friend that was in another boat was drifting flies on a spin rod and caught a 12 pounder, which was pretty impressive for the Rogue. This whole dam removal project should be amazing for the fishery.

Blueracer:

Haven't fish the North Fork of the Umpqua but have fished the South Fork for wild winter fish. Some very big fish on the SF. Still learning it but scream sleeper with many fish in the teens. Most guys think the SF is a gear river but I have found lots of good fly water.
