I know this is not fly fishing but it could be my future transportation, actually an upgrade.
I now have a Gary Fisher bike but have a chance to buy this Trek bike from my neighbor.
He's had it a few years and rode it quite a while in the mountains of Colorado.
He said he paid around $4,000 for the bike new and I've been reading about the bike on line.
From what I can see the frame is a carbon fiber frame and the whole bike weighs around 24lbs.
He's selling it for $400.00. I ride a bike pretty much every day. I use to do around 25 miles a day but now only ride maybe 15 miles a day.

I know there are a lot of bike riders out there, just wondering what's your opinion on the bike. Have you ever ridden a bike like this. I'm on the road right now but will be home tomorrow to test ride it and maybe purchase it.

thanks

Jay

That's a sweet deal! You should ride it though, some of the older full suspension bikes "bob" up and down a lot and eat up peddling power. If you're using it for communting you may not like the feel. But for the price I wouldn't pass it up.

I ride a Trex Fuel 90 and love it. But with any mountain bike definetly take it for a ride and ride it hard to see if it fits with your riding style.

To be honest, I would pass. That bike is ancient history in terms of suspension design. The URT (unified rear triangle) suspension design has died for a reason, most notably pedal bob and the fact that the suspension becomes very inactive when you are standing up (ie, when your are descending, ie, when you want the suspension to be at it's MOST active).

Also, if you're a big dude, that frame will flex like mad.

For $400 you probably won't have much remorse, but if you ride a lot (sounds like you do!), you can do much better for just a few bucks more, especially on the used market (one word: craigslist).

If you don't want it, can you pass it on to me. I need a bike to leave up in Dunsmuir so I can get to some good spots a bit faster. I got cash if it does not fit you or your riding style.
Thanks

Rockman, I'm passing on the bike and sticking to my Gary Fisher bike. It gets me to where I want to go but a little more weight to the frame. I'm just a street rider and don't do anymore mountain bike riding. That's what caused both of my knees having surgery. Flat land riding is more my style, except when I take a ride to the casino. Then I have a slight incline for a mile or so.
So if you're really interested let me know will figure out payment and how to get it to you

Jay
