After three beautiful days checking things out in the Delta, I figured it is time to kick off the 2011 www.DanBlanton.com bulletin board Striperfest & BBQ. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, November 5th.

This event was founded in 1997 to acknowledge Dan Blanton for all his contributions to fly fishing as well as a “thank you” for establishing this fine bulletin board. Additionally, this event is to acknowledge all of you for contributing to Dan’s board with such fun and educational fly-fishing information.

Several years ago this event expanded its scope and added a fund raising component to help with efforts to reduce the excessive diversions of water imperiling the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and the fish that depend on this estuary. Additionally, we have expanded these efforts to deal with the “invasive/non-native species” challenges currently impacting the future of the striped bass. The charity for the event, via an incredible raffle with the most amazing collection of goods and services from the fly-fishing industry is the Bay/Delta Conservation Committee of the Northern California Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers. This amazing raffle, which has exceeded the expectations of many over the years (just ask Wayne Syn or our very own Marcus Schroers about the results last year!), is all because of the generous people who provide the fabulous product. This is all because fish need water – preferably cool, unpolluted water. The rods, reels, gear and of course the highly coveted packages of flies produced by some of the fly fishing community’s most creative and skilled tiers makes this event extra special. Please stay tuned for further updates from Marcus Schroers and Noel de Guzman regarding the fantastic Striperfest Raffle!

David Riggs and the entire Sugar Barge team will be hosting the event in their terrific facility on Bethel Island. Festivities will commence at 4 p.m. The cost will be $35.00 per person. Like last year, we were able to arrange Dave’s BBQ to provide the mouth-watering buffet. I gave my buddies a heads up last year to show up on time and not risk being out of it. Here’s one more warning for those less than punctual eaters. Don’t miss out on the chicken, ribs, sausage, fruit, beans, garlic bread and more. We are really looking forward to Dave and Betty Gonzalez’s feast!

If you plan on attending, please attach your full name to this thread and include your fishing partners name. Also, indicate whether you have room in your boat for a guest or if you are looking to share a ride.

Dan and the entire Striperfest team are looking forward to seeing everyone. All newcomers are welcome!
