Golden Trout Wilderness

Just got back from a backpacking trip.
The Lyon meadows fire i feel have allowed a lot of runoff and sediment into the little kern river. The flows are good with the exception of chocolate brown water. The best fishing was had off of the tributaries where the waters were clear. We still caught goldens in the main river but we had the best luck off of the smaller creeks. There was Plenty of bug action on the surface throughout that day with minimal rises on the main river. Just a heads up for anyone headed this way... dont expect crystal clear waters.

I was hoping to backpack there this year but looks like I am going to have to put it off til next year.

Forgot to mention that a mudslide due to the fire and thunderstorms occured last week. There was a bout 1-2 ft of silt build up throughout the river. a lot of the gravel and rocks were covered up. Not sure how this will effect the fish in the area
