There used to be a Everett and Jones BBQ right near Florin and Franklin, and it was always busy, but for some reason they retreated back to the Bay Area. Best damn BBQ in Nor Cal. Now I go to their Oakland location when I'm down visiting family, but Sacramento...I'm not so sure... All of the places I've tried pale in comparison to E&J. Sorry.

Now that I think about it, Texas West BBQ isn't too bad. Their sauce is a bit too sweet for my taste, but as far as Sac goes, its the best I've found.

Take 80 west to San Jose, Sam's BBQ on Bascom. It's worth the drive.

Unfortunately I dont think Sacramento has a good BBQ. Somebody lend me a couple hundred grand and that could change.

Opinions on BBQ vary as much as opinions of rod actions.

For me the meat must stand alone. It must have a good bark, good seasoning, and a good sauce(on the side).

Thanks Jay,

I'm in San Jose twice a week, I'll have to make time to check it out.

Agree on Texas West. It's not great, but it's what we have.

After reading all of the comments about Texas West we had to try it out couple of nights ago. We were at Kaiser and the Roseville location was just across Douglas Blvd.

I had a generous portion of ribs while my wife had Baby back/chicken combo. Mine came dry while hers came smothered in sauce with totally blackened chicken. Both were just,,,,,okey. The macaroni salad side was poor.

We kept comparing this to Lucielle's and we like Lucielle's better. If you haven't been there it's located in the same parking lot as Sportsman's Warehouse. It's always packed with people and the food is great.

Guys, Sandra Dee's. Its downtown, around F & 15 i think. Buy far (seriously) the best in Sac. Thurs through Sat. they have beef ribs that are off the hook, also try the mac n cheese and hushpuppies. Tex-ass West is terrible, used to live around the corner from one, tried it 3 or 4 times, never any good.

I have to agree with most that Texas West is not very good.
Suprised no one has mentioned JR's Texas BBQ. Their brisket is very good
and the sandwich portion is almost too much at one time. It's heavily smoked
so you either like it not.

Not in Sacramento but I know many of you head to the Redding area to fish and for other activities. After tying at the Fly Tying Expo in Redding this last weekend I headed to Famous Dave's BBQ (www.famousdaves.com) near the Costco store area to meet and have dinner with some good friends. It was an excellent choice. I got the 6 rib dinner and it was more than I could eat...leftovers on Monday night. There was a wide variety of saucesa for use right on each table and if you wanted really hot they would bring it at your request. The flavor was superb and the wait staff helpful, friendly and professional. The menu is varied and all BBQ related. I will go back again. I wish one of these restaurants would open in the Sacramento area.
