........so you better get something planned.

Close by we have lots of valley rivers that get runs of Half-pounders and even larger fall run Steelhead.

We are the most familiar with the Lower American River. They will usually be in the river in good numbers in Sept/Oct.

If you are not familiar with how to fish Half-pounder Steelhead you can sign up for an inexpensive group seminar on the American River with Andy Guibord or Jeff Putnam this fall.

Also local guides with be going after them like Keith Kaneko and Bill Lowe.

This is a great time to buy a Switch rod or small Spey rod too.

Normally other valley rivers like the Lower Yuba, Lower Feather, and Lower Sacramento get runs of Half-pounders too.

For the best fall Half-pounder Steelheading the Lower Klamath and Lower
Rogue are very famous. Sept/Oct is tops for them too.

If you need any help with chasing Half-pounders be sure to email, phone or come by the shop.

Our entire staff are Half-pounder maniacs.....

Hey Bill...help a newbie out here...what gear would a person want for fishing the fall steelhead run on the AR, wading from shore?

A 4wt and a size 12 elk hair caddis, at about 8pm!

Jed is right on here.....

Any trout rod will work.

Use any 8.5' or longer #4 through 6 weight fly rod.

Switch rods and light Spey rods work well too.

Floating lines work early and late swinging nymphs in the surface and fishing dries right at the last light.

Use a 9' 3x leader for wets and add some 5x for the dries.

Have a fast sinking 10' Poly/Versi leader to add on after the sun is up a ways.

Add ~4 feet of 2x to the Poly/Versi leaders for fishing deeper in the daytime.

I would fish 6am till 8am with a floater and then go to a sinktip till 10am.

__________________________________________________ _____________________

From 5pm till 7pm fish a sinktip. Then from 7pm till dark go to the full floater.

This would be for Sept/Oct fishing.

Almost any #8 to 12 wet fly will work.

#12-14 caddis dries late can be good.
