Had several reports that there are summer run Steelhead in the Rogue River already.
Our friends Al Perryman (veteran guide/fly fisher) and Gary Anderson (custom rod builder) have had success recently. They live very near the river and fish it extremely early in the morning this time of year. They are using smaller Spey rods with Scandi lines, a long 15 foot leader and #4/6 dark winged classic style Steelhead flies.
I don't know if it is really worth it for us to travel there for a few hours of fishing each morning but Al says the fish are extremely hot this time of year.
October is a better time for most of us Nor Cal anglers to head up there.
