The very best in my opinion is Jim Clarkson of Raptor Rod Works in Chico. Jim ran Powell Fly Rod Co. for years and now owns an operates his own rod building business.

I second the Jim Clarkson vote - he does great work. He's got 5 of my rods right now for various refurb work - and he's building me a bamboo rod that will be a real gem. I haven't live in CA since '98 but Jim still gets all my business.
