Took a couple girls from the Granite Bay Flycasters and my wife up to Winnemucca Lake for a little hike in. We started at Woods Lake and there was still snow down there. Needless to say there was snow up at 9000 feet along with a few icebergs floating around, nothing as big as what took out the Titanic but it was still cool to kick around them in the float tube. Water temps was 40 degrees but fish able. I caught 6 brookies for the day so I was happy, but none of the girls caught anything, they did get some bites but nothing to hand. Robin Egan was one of the girls that joined me on the hike and she kicked that mountains butt. Not bad for her first hike in with a float tube and backpack. On the way we were passed by a couple skiers heading up to the top of Round Top peak, it was cool to watch them ski down. Needless to say there was more snow than I expected to see.

This was an amazing experience for my first hike-in fishing trip. I have never 'walked' anywhere high enough that my ears plugged enough to hurt when trying to eat! I had to take a decongestant to relieve the pressure -. Some friends think I was nuts to actually kick around those icebergs in 40 degree water, but I packed that tube/fins/waders all the way up there and I was damn well gonna use 'em!

As Scott mentioned, none of us girls landed anything, but I did get to feel a tug... I don't think I was waiting long enough for my line to get deep enough. I only had a Type 2 sinking line. Ah well... better luck next time. And, yes, there will probably be a next time... Scotty's got me hooked 8-).

Those Pictures are awesome. People from outside our area are blown away that it can be 95 degrees and there is still snow. That must have been a great hike! Regardless of the fish or lack there of. Thanks for the photos for those of us who stand on low ground and look up.
