It was a littel differnt this year !!! The fish were a smaller then average #15- #25 last few years #20-#30 average ? , we did better on the incomming tide , last year it was all about the outgoing tide? The crabbing was decent , The bugs (no see ums , and white soxs ) were on the bite as allways
We did get one White king ,I ended up with 9 to the net for 8 days , I gotta say that the skagit switch head (540) with any 15 foot rio tips is the way to go , with 2 guys spey roddin out of a 16 foot skiff , I can snap it outta there and recast it , bang bang I like it alot better then a compact skagit (its just to long , for this game) Mark

Looks like you had a successful trip. I'm curious. What depth were the Salmon holding at while you were casting to them  Is it sight or blind casting

Did you stay at a local lodge/resort and was the boat a rental

Sorry for all of the questions, I've been interested in making a DIY trip to Juneau for some time. :D

Hey Darian , the Gastineau channel runs between Juneau and Douglas Island , depending on the tide (these are big tides) depth can go from 15-20feet of water to bone dry on the minus , so the fish are moving in and out with the water , I stick with 15 ft of#3 and just change the speed of the retrive as the drift changes , if you go to deep the bull heads will be all over your fly . Were mostly blind casting , but allways on the lookout for fish showing , they get a littel moody, but when they show ,look out !!!!
Ive got some budds that live up there (with skiffs) and they get up for Kings , (operation full frezzer) these are hatchery fish heading to di-pac. I kick pack on the air matteres , the price is right !!
As far as going up there , I would suggest Sept. for the coho , there are some great spots off the road system , and the channel gets stuffed with them , you dont need a boat or guied and the bugs are gone !!! Super8 and rent a wreck is all you need , Mark
